Dr Harijot Singh Khalsa Ph.D, N.D., Ph.T. With over 50 years of experience, Dr. Khalsa has been at the forefront of the wellness movement, taking part in the beginnings of the Physical Therapy profession in the U.S., as well as spearheading the development of high quality massage education. Starting his decade-long studies in the early '60s as a student of Chinese Medicine, he was one of the first Westerners to train with Chinese healers in the Orient. Dr. Khalsa's journey toward wellness began when he was the coach of a high school basketball team. He observed that the team's osteopath was the only practitioner truly able to help and heal his injured players. This was an insight which led him into physical therapy, naturopathy and oriental medicine. Along the way, he also found time to own and manage a health food store, translate several Chinese health books from Cantonese into English, set up a Chinese restaurant to learn about Chinese food prescriptions for health, develop a line of natural herbal remedies, advise and write articles for Kung Fu Magazine, and start the Oriental Therapy Center which introduced Shiatsu to the west. He has authored over 10 books and numerous articles in the field of natural health and healing, including the popular Swedish Massage Work Book, and has taught at a wide range of schools including universities throughout the United States. For 19 years, he served as Director of the prestigious Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy in New York City. The best known and oldest school of massage therapy in the U.S. While at the Swedish Institute, he started the Ling Clinic, a low-fee facility providing access to medical massage therapy. In 1980, he developed the EPG (Energy Pulse Graph), a device that analyzes energy flow through the body's meridians and creates a treatment plan to correct energy imbalances.Merging information from each of his healing specialties, Dr. Khalsa's unique talent is his ability to combine great compassion for his patients with keen intuition in order to effect extraordinary healings. To accomplish this, he works with 'Shen' energy, which is based on one of the three treasures of Chinese Medicine. The divinely inspired part of us, 'Shen' has been called the God Consciousness within us. For diagnosis, he employs a combination of the Chinese and Taoist systems of 'pulse reading' to find the imbalances resident in each person's 10 psychic bodies. He also focuses on the treatment of pain using trigger point therapy. For over 50 years, his goal has been to help patients reach optimum health through natural, drug free methods. He currently holds positions as a charter member of the Society of Integrative Medicine, a Founding Member of the New Mexico State Licensing Board of Massage Therapists, Director Emeritus of the Swedish Institute of Massage in New York City, a 31-year member of the Society of Practitioners of Chinese Herbal Medicine in Hong Kong, a member of the International Society of Naturopathic Physicians, a Fellow in the Science of Physical Therapy through the New Jersey State Society of Physical Therapy since 1958, a member of the National Association of Independent Physical Therapists, and a member of the Alliance of Massage Therapists.
